Lindsey lay flat on her belly under the early morning stars on the eponymous rock formation in Window Rock, New Mexico. She had her suppressed M4A1 pressed to her shoulder as she stared through the scope at the Navajo Nation government complex below.

Pruitt was positioned beside her with his own suppressed M4. Nuke and Jay were on top of another tall rock about fifty yards to their east, equipped with their sniper rifles.

She peeled her eyes away from her scope to study their newest allies.

Two of Kipp’s loyal police officers were near Pruitt and Lindsey, ready to provide fire support. One was a large, tattooed man with the face of a bulldog who went by the name Little Sparrow. Lindsey wasn’t sure how he had been given the name, but the last words she would use to describe the guy were ‘little’ and ‘sparrow.’

The other, thinner officer was named Jack Claw. He had a clean-shaven face and short dark hair, his jaw almost perfectly square.

Both stared intently at the Navajo Nation government complex. They comprised various administrative offices such as the Navajo Nation Council Chamber, the Office of the President and Vice President, and the Navajo Office of Vital Records.

Most of these places had been easy for the average Navajo Nation citizen to visit prior to the Rattlesnakes’ takeover. But now a chain-link fence surrounded the whole complex. Rattlesnake guards patrolled the perimeter, both inside and out.

Every once in a while, Lindsey saw a couple of police officers making rounds. But according to Kipp, most of the officers were on normal beat duties or around the Division of Public Safety Headquarters about three-quarters of a mile southwest of their current position. Lindsey twisted her wrist and pulled up her jacket sleeve. In fact, Kipp should be at the DPS HQ right about now.

She had spent the past several days scouting out the area and performing recon with Pruitt, Nuke, and Jay.

Her goal tonight was relatively straightforward. Within the chain-link fences, the men, women, and children here were kept in a series of trailer homes in the parking lot of the one-story, red brick building housing the Heritage and Historic Preservation Department. They were essentially political prisoners of the local Rattlesnakes. She and her team would free and protect these people, after they picked off the Rattlesnake guards.

In the meantime, Kipp would mount an attack on the DPS HQ. His part of tonight’s mission was both to rescue the legitimate president, who was imprisoned in solitary confinement within the jail, and lead the rebellion of police officers loyal to the real Navajo Nation.

In one fell swoop, they hoped to free Window Rock from Eddy’s grasp.

Another glance at her watch told her it was nearly time for action.

She inhaled, focusing.

Tonight, Lindsey would launch her first offensive action to strike back against Eddy and the Rattlesnakes since Fort Golden was attacked.

She depressed the button on her radio. “Nuke, execute.”

“Wilco.”

Two seconds later, an enormous explosion erupted from near the Window Rock Airport a couple miles south.
